Capital.com CFD Broker Review

  1. Capital Com

Capital.com is a CySEC regulated CFD broker founded in 2016, providing trading services in 24 languages to retail customers in South Africa and across the globe. Customers have access to more than 1,000 markets for Forex and CFD trading, spanning commodities, cryptocurrencies, shares and indices. Capital.com provides outstanding investment training opportunities through the ‘investmate’ learning app, powered by artificial intelligence, and 24-hour support in 13 languages. To find out more about the trading conditions at Capital.com, read our in-depth review below.

    Capital.com Special Features

We saw that traders are not given a choice of tailored trading accounts but a single account type for everybody opting to trade at Capital.com. The minimum deposit required to set up a trading account with Capital.com is 100 USD, GBP, EUR or 400 PLN. However, customers who choose to fund their accounts with bank wire transfer must make a minimum initial deposit of 250 USD or currency equivalent. Importantly, to avoid having the trading account suspended, it’s important that customers in South Africa and across the globe, submit copies of a government issued identification document and a utility bill or bank statement showing the client’s address, to verify the trading account. This is not negotiable with Capital.com as it’s designed to protect customers from fraud and prove that they are not involved in money laundering.

The trading account gives traders access to leverage up to 1:200. However, the leverage ratio depends on the tradeable instrument chosen by the customer. Moreover, trading accounts have negative balance protection ensuring that traders cannot lose more than the funds deposited in their trading accounts. Whilst Capital.com does not charge trading fees, it includes the cost of trading into the spreads between Buy and Sell prices on the trading platform. Notably, spreads vary widely between asset classes and instruments and are decided by the broker. We saw that Capital.com acts as a market maker, meaning that it sets the spreads on the trading platform at its own discretion. Consequently, spreads may not reflect the actual market prices, but the spreads offered by competing brokers and the liquidity available in markets. Customers who leave positions open overnight are charged trading fees referred to as an overnight premium by Capital.com and can be seen on the website on the ‘instruments’ page.

    Capital.com Demo Account

Capital.com offers customers the opportunity to open risk-free Demo accounts with full access to the authentic trading platform, including all the tools available for real money trading. It takes a few seconds to get the demo account up and running, and traders don’t need to submit any account verification documentation to get started. Capital.com provides demo traders with an unlimited amount of virtual money and as much time as they like to familiarise themselves with financial trading at Capital.com. We recommend practice trading whenever possible, as it does give traders in South Africa and across the globe, a ‘head start’ when they begin trading with real money.

    Capital.com Trading Software

At Capital.com, customers can trade from on the browser-based Web platform as well as using the CFD trading app for convenient trading on the go. Additionally, the ‘investmate’ learning app lets traders pursue their trading education and personal goals from mobile devices whilst commuting, standing in queues and waiting for friends.

Traders at Capital.com can choose from a diverse selection of instruments for CFD trading in financial markets across the globe. Cryptocurrency CFDs feature strongly on the Capital.com platform with Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin and Ripple trading possible without needing to buy the physical assets. Importantly, trading in crypto CFDs requires minimal investment and gives traders the opportunity to profit from market volatility that characterizes digital currency markets. Moreover, Customers in South Africa may want to know that trading in crypto CFDs is much more secure than buying and selling digital coins on crypto exchanges that may be vulnerable to hackers seeking to steal the digital coins stored there.

    Capital.com Web Platform Features

The Web platform at Capital.com is accessible through the browser of any internet connected device without requiring a software download. Traders in South Africa, can switch smoothly from desktop to tablet or mobile phone for seamless trading on the move. Importantly, the Web platform is very easy to use with an intuitive interface and the several trading modes including instant execution of market orders as well as limit orders. The multi-chart mode displays up to 6 charts simultaneously and the broad range of technical indicators make technical analysis straightforward and easy to understand. Moreover, the Web platform shows the histories of orders, funds and positions separately, as well as flexible time frames for the market dynamics of all the tradeable instruments. Importantly, the platform features the Stop-loss and Take-profit risk management tools, ensuring that traders can exit positions at pre-set levels on the platform, thereby locking in profits and containing losses.

Capital.com Mobile CFD Trading App Features

The CFD trading app provides financial content for all types of skills and experience, and quick withdrawals within 24 business hours. Notably it features risk management tools such as the Take-Profit, Stop-Loss and Guaranteed Stop-Loss orders, as well as margin call when funds get too low in the trading account. Moreover, clients benefit from the ‘smart feed’ of market updates, expert analysis and economic news. The CFD mobile trading app includes real time market quotes, data updates and price alerts showing significant changes in markets. What makes this trading app different, is that it is built on artificial neural networks, commonly referred to as artificial intelligence. Importantly, traders are alerted by the AI if they demonstrate overconfidence and familiarity when trading, potentially avoiding poor investment decisions.

Investmate Learning App for iOS and Android

Capital.com provides customers in South Africa and across the globe, with a free mobile app for learning about financial investing, easily and conveniently by choosing from one of six personalised paths. The Investmate app is for download to iOS or Android powered mobile devices, and sets 6 separate goals for financial trading. We were impressed by the plain, uncluttered interface and the easy to understand glossary. Traders can follow 30 lessons in financial trading with some of the lessons just 3 minutes long, making them convenient for learning on the move. The lessons are ‘livened up’ with trading tips and financial quizzes making them very appealing to traders with all levels of experience.

    Capital.com Customer Support

We were impressed to see that Capital.com provides 24/7 customer support in 13 languages. Clients in South Africa and elsewhere, can get in touch with support agents through the live chat function on the trading platform interface and over the telephone. We found the extensive FAQs sheet very useful and would recommend that clients check it out before seeking live support.

We saw that Capital.com is very pro-active when it comes to providing educational resources for its customers. Apart from the free investmate app for learning financial trading in short simple lessons on the move, customers can access the learning resources on the website explain CFDs, financial markets and crypto trading in straightforward lessons lasting between 2 and 4 minutes each.

    Capital.com Payment Methods

Capital.com supports a diverse range of payment methods to customers in South Africa and around the world. Account funding can be done using major credit/debit cards such as Visa and Mastercard as well as bank wire transfer. Additionally, we saw a long list of electronic payment methods that are especially fast and convenient including Skrill, Neteller, Sofort, iDeal, Giropay, Multibanko, Przelewy24, QIWI, Webmoney, Trustly, 2c2p and Astropay TEF. The maximum amount that can be deposited per transaction depends on the payment method and is shown with each type of payment method at the time of registering an account.

We were pleased to see that Capital.com does not charge fees on deposits or withdrawals from trading accounts. Furthermore, withdrawal request can be submitted directly from the ‘my account’ page and take just one business day to process.  Withdrawals to credit cards are delivered in 24 hours on weekdays, whilst funds take longer to reach customers using other methods.

Capital.com is owned by Capital Com SV Investments Ltd with license number 319/17, a company authorised and regulated by the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC). Whilst the company is headquartered at 6th Floor Lophitis Business Centre II, 237, 28th October Street, Limassol, PC3035, Cyprus it also maintains offices in London, Gibraltar and Belarus.
